I'm Ready To Score!

2016 crept up on me like rogue ovaries! I just wasn’t prepared for the ending of one cycle and the start of another. Life was happening, ish was going on, and I was doing my best to ride the waves like a surfer chick, albeit a drunken one! I may have been rockin’ and swaying on that surfboard of life, but at least I was in the game.

Life is still going strong, and I’m playing offense.  I’m ready to score (multiple meanings), and my blog is beckoning for my presence (she’s needy!). Luckily, I’m full of material to feed her. Btw… be prepared to read material that’s a bit more raw and personal, along with the usual more lighthearted stuff.

Speaking of reading… I’ve been published! Exciting right?! I have the privilege of being included in an anthology with some mega-talented writers (so what the heck am I doing in there?!). Lose the Cape: Never Will I Ever (and then I had Kids!) is the book and you can get your copy HERE.

Besides teasing your sweet tooth and making your mouth water for French desserts, Cookie Jam is a fun but mentally stimulating game. I became interested in the game after watching my fiancé play it repeatedly. He was totally engrossed and I, therefore, had to find out what all the hype was about!

I’m not a baker, but I would surely like to be! So when I realized I could pretend to be a chef creating fancy French dessert recipes (cookies, pies, cupcakes, special cake slices), I knew the game was going to be fun. I even had my dessert-loving daughters in mind while learning the rules.

Dear Asshole,

There’s no way you could know this but Halloween is my family’s favorite holiday. We live for horror movies, costumes, and spending one night in a world that doesn’t gag us with princess tiaras and glitter. We do enjoy that stuff but not on Halloween.

Our seven year old contemplated her vampire costume all week. She wanted to be sure that her fangs were just right and that her costume’s collar stood on her neck perfectly. She wanted makeup but not too much. She wanted fake blood but didn’t appreciate how I literally had it dripping from her face.

Enthusiasm got the best of me!

Our two year old wouldn’t nap all day and was delirious with exhaustion by evening. The act of choosing between a bumblebee costume (she didn’t want to wear!) and an old witch costume was almost a catastrophe. She eventually gave in to the bumblebee but had an exhaustion meltdown after seeing her makeup applied.

My spouse and I procrastinated and didn’t purchase costumes for ourselves. We’d never give up on Halloween so we settled for old stained clothes from our closet. After covering them and ourselves in fake blood, dirt, and rotting flesh, we were the perfect zombies!

I’m laying this all out for you so you can get an idea of how devoted we were to this night. Can you sense our excitement and dedication yet? Well imagine how taken aback we were when we “met” you.

Nails on Fleek

My nails are always one cuticle push-back away from goblin claws. I’m a busy woman, a busy mom, always cooking, cleaning, washing, taming, exercising, writing, typing, and doing something. While some women are fortunate enough to frequent nail salons regularly, I am not one of them. I’m lucky to still show my hands in public!

I do love nail polish and how color makes my hands look decorative and attractive. I always feel sexier and more important with my nails manicured! Ever notice how often a woman uses hand gestures when her nails are done? Pay attention next time.

Although I love polish, I’m often hesitant to apply it because no amount of base/top coat can seem to keep up with me. I become infuriated after applying a gazillion coats of everythAng only to end up with chipping! I’d rather have boring nails than walk around with little clouds of polish on my nail beds. 

Today, however, I’m using hand gestures with every syllable because my nails are gorgeous!
